FAQ
Short answers to the questions people ask before and after they install Vaicoa. Each one links to the page with the details.
Why is Vaicoa read-only?
Section titled “Why is Vaicoa read-only?”Because a monitoring tool does not need to change anything, and a tool that cannot change anything is safe to connect everywhere. Vaicoa only uses read-only Hetzner tokens; the portal refuses a token that can write, and the app warns when one can (“Token works, but it can WRITE”). The agent opens no inbound ports, and its configuration channel cannot deliver code. Changes happen where they belong: in the Hetzner Console, or in your infrastructure code through your own review. Vaicoa gives you the link and the context to make them.
Is my Hetzner token safe? Where is it stored?
Section titled “Is my Hetzner token safe? Where is it stored?”In free mode the token stays on your iPhone, in the Keychain, and goes only to Hetzner’s API. It is never sent to us. Sync projects via iCloud (off by default) moves it into your iCloud Keychain, which Apple encrypts end to end.
A project connected to a team on Pro or Team stores its token on our servers, encrypted, and it is never shown again after you enter it. Our servers use it only to read your project from the Hetzner API. The agent, the Claude connector and shared briefs never hold or contain it. See Privacy and security.
Does it work without an account?
Section titled “Does it work without an account?”Yes. In free mode the app reads the Hetzner Cloud API directly with your read-only token: every resource, its state, Hetzner’s own metrics and a cost estimate, for as many projects as you add. Nothing about your projects is stored on our side. Uptime checks need a free account; history, alerts, the agent and dedicated servers need Pro or Team. See Choose your setup.
What is the difference between the free account and Pro?
Section titled “What is the difference between the free account and Pro?”A free account adds uptime checks: 4 targets with up to 8 checks between them, checked every 5 minutes, with 30 days of history and no alerts. It connects no Hetzner project and stores no token. Pro connects your projects to our servers and adds metric and cost history, alerts by push, email and webhook, the agent with disk, RAM and log context, job reports, dedicated servers, checks every 60 seconds and the Claude connector. Team adds seats, room for more projects and servers, 90 days of history, PagerDuty, and SSH and sudo log lines. See Plans and limits.
Where do I buy Pro or Team?
Section titled “Where do I buy Pro or Team?”In the iPhone app, through Apple, at prices that include VAT. Each plan starts with one free month if Apple says your Apple Account is eligible. The details: Subscriptions and billing.
Can I monitor dedicated (Robot) servers?
Section titled “Can I monitor dedicated (Robot) servers?”Yes, on Pro and Team. Dedicated servers are not in the Hetzner Cloud API, so the agent is how Vaicoa sees them: disk, RAM and load, warning log lines and job reports, plus uptime checks on their addresses. CPU and network charts come from the Cloud API and are not available for them. Their price counts as €0 until an admin enters it. See Add a dedicated server.
If a dedicated server stops reporting for more than 5 minutes, Vaicoa sends a critical alert. Because the agent is its only signal, an uptime check on the server’s address is the way to tell a server that is down from an agent that stopped.
Does it support other providers?
Section titled “Does it support other providers?”No. Vaicoa covers Hetzner Cloud projects and Hetzner dedicated servers, and aims to cover them completely before it adds anything else. Uptime checks are the exception: they watch any public endpoint, wherever it is hosted.
Why are logs limited to warnings and 72 hours?
Section titled “Why are logs limited to warnings and 72 hours?”Vaicoa is a monitoring baseline, not a log platform. Warning lines say that something went wrong and where; 72 hours covers the time between an alert and you looking at it. Keeping only those lines keeps the data per server small and predictable, which is what makes it cheap enough to leave on everywhere. It also keeps less personal data: secrets are masked on your server before a line is sent, and SSH and sudo lines are collected only on Team, when an admin turns them on. If you need every line, keep your log platform; Vaicoa tells you where to look. See Log context.
Can I export my data or use an API?
Section titled “Can I export my data or use an API?”There is no export feature and no public API for reading your data. The integration points are the Claude connector, a read-only MCP server for one team, and alert targets, which send each alert to your webhook or to PagerDuty as it happens. Briefs give you an alert or a resource as Markdown. Your Hetzner data stays available from Hetzner’s own API.
How do I delete my account?
Section titled “How do I delete my account?”In the app: Settings → Delete Account. On the web: account.vaicoa.com/users/profile/delete/. Deleting your account removes your data. A team you were the last member of is deleted with it. A subscription bought in the iPhone app is billed by Apple and keeps renewing until you cancel it in your Apple Account’s subscription settings, so cancel it there first. A team that still has other members keeps its subscription.
Where is my data stored?
Section titled “Where is my data stored?”On servers in the EU: your account, connected projects and their tokens, metrics, log lines, job reports, check results and alert history. In free mode, your token and project data stay on your iPhone. Push notifications pass through Apple’s push service. Payments go through Apple. See Privacy and security and the app’s privacy policy.
How do I get help?
Section titled “How do I get help?”Write to support@mitjamartini.com. For a security report, see Security reports. Many problems have a short answer in Troubleshooting.
