Add a dedicated server

Dedicated servers are part of Vaicoa Pro and Vaicoa Team. Each one takes a monitored-server slot.

Dedicated servers from Hetzner Robot are not in the Hetzner Cloud API, so a project token cannot see them. The Vaicoa agent is the only way they appear in Vaicoa: with RAM, disk, load, warning log lines, job reports and the price you pay, next to your cloud servers.

What you need: the Administrator role in a Pro or Team team, and root on the server. The server needs systemd, curl and apt or dnf/yum; see Install the agent.

  1. In the portal, open Monitored Servers and click Add server. On One server, enter a Server name, pick Dedicated as the Kind and leave Hetzner project empty. Click Register server.

  2. Copy the agent token. It is shown once.

  3. On the server, run the command the portal shows, as root:

    Terminal window
    curl -fsSL https://get.vaicoa.com/agent | sh -s -- --token <agent_token>
  4. Within a minute, the server shows Connected in Monitored Servers.

Every dedicated server needs a token of its own. Fleet enrollment identifies a server through the Hetzner Cloud metadata service, which Robot servers do not have. For many dedicated servers, register each one and let your configuration management write its token to the server (Install with your package manager).

Vaicoa cannot look up what a Robot server costs, so a dedicated server counts as €0 in every cost figure until you enter its price. Until then, the portal and the app show No price next to it.

  1. In Monitored Servers, click Set price (the euro icon) on the server.
  2. Enter the Monthly price (net) from your invoice, without VAT. The Hourly price (net) is optional. Pick the Currency and click Save price.

On the Costs tab, priced dedicated servers appear on their own line under the month-to-date total, ”… stated monthly prices, full month”. It is a full month’s price, so it is not added to month-to-date, and there is no cost history for it. To remove a price, clear all fields and save. See Costs.

Hetzner Robot has no labels, so a dedicated server is missing from the By label breakdown unless it has labels set in the portal.

In the app:

  • The Dashboard has a Dedicated servers section: each server with its agent state and its price per month, or No price.
  • On the Resources tab, grouped by Kind, they are under Dedicated servers.
  • Tap one for its own detail screen: the agent state and Last seen, Price / month, then Metrics (RAM, disk and load), Jobs and Log context, the system warnings of the last 72 hours.

There are no CPU or network charts. Those come from the Hetzner Cloud API, which covers cloud servers only, and for the same reason a dedicated server has no CPU alert. The disk, memory and log-line alert rules apply to it as to a cloud server; see Alert rules.

If the server sends nothing for more than 5 minutes, you get a critical stopped reporting alert. The agent is the only signal Vaicoa has for a dedicated server, so the alert cannot tell a server that is down from an agent that stopped. An uptime check on the server’s address watches it from outside and tells the two apart. See Alert rules.

If a Cloud network is bridged to a Robot vSwitch, the network’s detail screen shows Bridged to vSwitch #…. The Cloud API says only that the bridge exists, not which servers are on it, so the row links to the Robot console. This row needs no agent and is in free mode, too.

The agent reports from inside the server. An uptime check on the server’s address adds the view from outside: whether its website, a port such as SSH, or its certificate answers.
