Widgets, shortcuts and Siri

The widgets, Siri and the Shortcuts app show the state of your resources and, on Pro and Team, your month-to-date cost without opening the app. They use the data the app last loaded and make no network requests of their own.

  1. Touch and hold an empty area of the home screen and add a widget.
  2. Search for Vaicoa and choose Infrastructure health.
  3. Pick the small, medium or large size.

Before the app has loaded data for the first time, the widget shows “Open Vaicoa to load your projects”.

The widget is a short version of the dashboard’s fleet block. The top line names Vaicoa and gives the counts: how many things you watch and how many are in each colour, and on the medium and large sizes the month-to-date total. On the small size it shows only the number that needs attention, in the colour of the worst state.

Under it are the rows, ranked as on the dashboard: what is wrong now first, then what is fine now but had problems within the window, then the row whose cost rose most against last month. The small size shows three rows, the medium and large sizes four. There is no “alerts only” mode.

Each row shows the status dot, the name and the history strip: the last 14 days on the small size, 30 on the medium and large sizes, in the dashboard’s colours (green reachable, amber degraded, red down, grey no data). The large size also shows each row’s month-to-date amount, and under the rows the firing alerts under Needs attention. On the medium and large sizes, tapping a row opens that resource.

Strips, amounts and alerts come from Vaicoa’s servers: rows of connected projects on Pro and Team, and check targets of a Vaicoa account, have them. In free mode, without an account, a row shows the dot and the name.

When no row qualifies, the widget shows the counts large, with “All healthy” above them. “All healthy” is not shown while anything is grey, because nothing confirms that it is healthy.

The widget shows what the app last saved, so it uses no extra battery or data. It updates whenever the app refreshes. When a warning or critical alert arrives as a push notification (Pro and Team), the notification updates the widget before you open the app: the counts change, and a row already on the widget turns amber or red.

Tapping the widget opens the alert list when something is wrong, and the dashboard otherwise.

There are two lock-screen widgets. The circular one shows how many resources are healthy out of the total. The rectangular one shows a dot per ranked row and the number of alerts, or “All healthy”.

You can ask Siri:

  • “Is anything on fire in Vaicoa?” or “Check my servers in Vaicoa”: how many resources are healthy, and the firing alerts if any.
  • “Show my Vaicoa alerts”: opens the app on the alert list.
  • “What’s my cloud costing in Vaicoa?”: the month-to-date cost. It comes from your team’s billed costs, so it needs Vaicoa Pro or Vaicoa Team. The estimate for projects on your iPhone is on the Costs tab.

Alerts need Pro or Team; in free mode the health answer counts the resources that need attention and names the worst project.

The phrases exist in English only for now. The answers use the latest data on the device. If that data is more than five minutes old, the answer says how old it is (“as of 10 minutes ago”). The same three actions are in the Shortcuts app as Check Infrastructure Health, Show Alerts and Month-to-Date Cloud Cost, for your own automations.
